I have a new weight loss tool for you today.  It’s a pencil.

You use it to write down what you eat and when you eat it.  The purpose is not to make you feel bad, but to help you get a handle on what works for you and what doesn’t.

I’m sure you have had  a bad day when you didn’t know why the scale has inched up.  Keeping a food diary will help you identify problems so you can fix them.

Keeping track of the time you eat is important, too.  If you discover that you eat too much every afternoon, you can plan ahead and make sure you have something filling but low glycemic ready to eat.

If you typically overeat certain foods, you may want to fix them less often, or not at all for a while.  If you love spaghetti, for example, and eat three plates full every time you fix it, you may want to drop it off the menu plans for a while.

We all have our weak spots and times when we are most vulnerable.  If we know our weaknesses, we can arm ourselves against them by making alternate plans. So pick up your pencil and write down everything that goes in your mouth.  It might just be the most beneficial exercise you do all day!
