kuGcJzhEEZJqLsN-111x83-cropped.jpgYesterday, I posted information about the delay of donate-to-text gifts reaching those impacted in Japan’s earthquake and tsunami. I featured a petition from my friends at Change.org to encourage mobile phone providers to speed up gifts to Japan.

At the time of the post, about 2,500 people had signed the petition.

As of this morning, over 40,000 of you have responded!

Thank you!

I’ll keep you posted as new information on this issue arises.

In the meantime, if you haven’t signed the petition, here’s the link. The same letter from the petition is below.

In addition, below are a list of organizations receiving donations via text messaging. This is not a recommendation for any particular place, but is shared here for your convenience. Go change the world!

Letter text from Change.org:

Remove the wait time on donations to Japan

Greetings,

The twin disasters of the earthquake and tsunami that
pummeled the eastern coast of Japan have been incomprehensible in their
scale, and deserve our best efforts to help the millions of people
affected recover.

The scale of this tragedy will stretch international recovery
efforts to their limits, and any additional resources that are
contributed should be put to use as soon as possible.

Currently, there is a wait time of up to 90 days for mobile
donations to reach those in need in Japan. This is unacceptable. Tens
of thousands of people still need to be rescued and even more require
aid and support. By signing on to this petition, you will be helping to
have money remitted to those in need as soon as possible.

Thank you,

[your name]
