The bedroom is where it all begins and ends — sleep-wise that is. An appropriate bedroom environment is your starting point. Take a look at yours now; are there clothes on the floor, bills on the nightstand? Are the shades drawn, and are they thick enough to keep out most of the light?

A calm, restful space without the reminders of your hectic life will help start you on the path to restful sleep.

If you're catching your 8 hours during the day, try room-darkening shades or a sleep mask. Wear earplugs or use a fan to block out daytime noise. Keep the room darkened and at cool temperature.
