Grilled Cheese Virgin Mary

In 1994, Diane Duyser was getting ready to eat a grilled cheese sandwich when she saw the face of the Virgin Mary staring back at her on the toasted bread. “I went to take a bite out of it, and then I saw this lady looking back at me,” she explains. Duyser wrapped the sandwich in a plastic bag and left it in her freezer for the next nine years. In 2003 she put the sandwich up for auction on eBay with the proviso that it was “not intended for consumption.” The sandwich was eventually purchased by the Golden Palace Casino for $28,000.
