You might recall the news of celebrities who really blew their cool during their careers. Sean Penn, Christian Bale and Alec Baldwin are just some examples of what happens when emotions rule the moment. All three stars lost their tempers in the heat of the moment with the press or on set. The aftermath for these actors was bad publicity, and a possible loss of endorsements, and the stigma of having a bad temper. Although, we might not receive mean Tweets or lose millions of dollars in support--our unmanaged emotions have consequences. But calming down is never an easy task. It feels good to speak your mind and express raw feelings. Like expressing discontentment at the injustices you feel at home or work sounds like a great notion at the time. However, it could backfire for not only your personal life, but negatively impact your health. Here are 5 strategies to handle emotions.

Be a person who is optimistic and change your attitude. This will help with stressful situations and help to cope with wild emotions. We know stress is harmful to our health. If we are more optimistic about life, we will live healthier lives. Start with positive self-talk. This not only will help emotions, the body, but the mind. It could help with depression, reduce tension, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Changing your thinking now will pay for itself later as the mind and emotions are connected. Harness thoughts and release them when they are toxic. Try music, nature, or a hobby to have an outlet when life gets to you. Overall, by becoming more optimistic and positive we change negative emotions for a better body, and mind.
