When we struggle with our mental health, it is important to replace unhelpful thoughts with faith-filled affirmations.

Self-hate is a common problem many people struggle with. It can manifest in many ways, such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. If you struggle with your mental health in any shape or form, you might be familiar with self-hate. Instead of giving in to self-hate, it is important for you to fight back against these thoughts with faith-filled affirmations.

For example, you could say, “I am enough” or “I don't have to change who I am for others to like me” in the mirror five times a day, five days a week in order to start changing your self-perspective. This exercise will prove to be beneficial for you and life changing. Try to recite these faith-filled affirmations for your mental wellness. By reminding yourself of what God says, it can help you to keep your eyes focused on Him rather than the thoughts in your head.

1. I Am Enough (Colossians 2:9-10)

Within Colossians 2:9-10, you are told that you are complete in Christ. This means that you are not lacking anything in your life. If you have Jesus, then you have everything you need. Your mental health can struggle when you believe you are not enough. You may often think you are not good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough, and this can make your mental health begin to deteriorate.

If you want to help your mental health, you need to remind yourself that you are enough because Jesus is enough. From the moment you placed faith in Jesus, you have been made complete. You are not lacking anything in any shape or in any form. Look at yourself in the mirror today and remind yourself that you are enough. Recite Colossians 2:9-10 and allow its truth to fill up your soul.

2. I Am Loved (Romans 8:37-39)

Mental health struggles can often make you feel like you are not loved. Since you have seen parents, family members, and friends leave your life, you struggle with knowing you are loved. By tuning to Romans 8:37-39, you can know we are loved. Paul tells you in this passage that God's love for you is immeasurable. Nothing in all creation can separate you from the love of God that is found in Jesus. This love is unmistakable, and it is built up on God Himself.

Whenever you struggle with knowing you are loved, recite, “I am loved” ten times in the mirror. Read over Romans 8:37-39, memorize it, and keep it close to your heart. By taking these steps, it will help you to know you are loved unconditionally by God Himself. This alone can improve your mental health and help you feel better about your own life situation.

3. I Am Never Alone (Hebrews 13:5-6)

There are many events in this world that can make you feel alone. Maybe your best friend got a new best friend or your spouse left you. Any of these things can leave you feeling alone, hurt, and crestfallen. Although there will be times where you just feel alone as well as times when you will be physically alone, you need to remember that you are never alone because God is always with you (Hebrews 13:5-6). Even though you cannot see Him, God is right beside you through every storm.

Recite this affirmation to yourself every day and try to reflect on the truth that God is with you. Don't give way to fear and don't stop finding your hope in God. You are never alone. God is beside you and He is fighting for you (Exodus 14:14).

4. I Am Protected by God (Psalm 23:1-6)

Mental wellness can thrive when you know you are safe and protected. Sadly, due to living in a fallen world, you can often question if you are ever safe. It seems to be that there is always crime on the news, and you fear you might be a victim of one of these crimes one day. In order to protect your mental health, you need to remember that you are protected by God (Psalm 23:1-6). He is your Good Shepherd, He will protect you from the evil one, and He is greater than all things.

It is okay to be afraid but bring these fears to God. Giving in to fear will worsen your mental health as it could cause you to separate yourself from the rest of the world. Therefore, talk with God about your fear and allow Him to help you stand up under it. You are protected by God and He will bring you safely to His Heavenly Kingdom (2 Timothy 4:18).

5. I Am Beautiful (Psalm 139:13-16)

Your mental health often struggles due to the unrealistic beauty standards of this world. You are always being told you need to change in order to be “beautiful.” The truth of the matter is that you are already beautiful because God says you are wonderfully and fearfully made (Psalm 139:13-16). The Bible also says that God created you in His image (Genesis 1:27).

Despite the constant messaging of the world, help yourself to know that you are beautiful. God didn't make a mistake when He created you. He created you to be His beautiful child. Open your heart to His love and accept the beauty He has given you. The heart He has given you is beautiful, complete, and shows how much you love Him.

Reciting these faith-filled affirmations will change your entire life. No longer will you be bogged down by negative thoughts or unhelpful comments. Instead, you will experience mental wellness by reciting Scripture and affirmations that bring you back to God’s love. Pray before you recite your affirmations and ask the Lord to help you truly apply these teachings into your life.
