Hormones can be out of balance for many reasons, but thankfully, there are many things you can do to reset them again.

In our present day and age, it is not uncommon for your hormones to be out of balance. Due to stress, eating habits, and sleeping routine, your hormones can become out of balance. If your hormones are out of balance, you will begin to notice various symptoms. Let's take a look at these potential signs today.

1. Extreme Depression

If your hormones are out of balance, you will experience bouts of depression. Are you currently feeling down, crestfallen, or depressed? It could be due to your hormones. If you have noticed a massive change in your mood, such as extreme highs or extreme lows, it is important to take time to talk with your primary care physician.

Your primary care physician will be able to order a simple blood test to check if your hormones are off. If they are, your doctor can write you a prescription for a medicine that will help regulate your hormones. Sometimes dysregulated hormones can be managed with birth control; however, other times, simply changing to a healthier diet, reducing stress, and getting enough sleep can manage abnormal hormone fluctuations.

2. Increase in Anxieties and Emotional Irregularities

Have you been increasingly more anxious? Irritable? Stressed out? While these emotions are normal, they become a problem if they are controlling your life. God doesn't want you to suffer through these hormonal fluctuations; instead, He wants you to come to Him (Philippians 4:6-7). Talk with Him about your anxieties and mood changes, and also seek out help from a doctor.

As mentioned, your primary care doctor will be able to create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Take some time to get away from the stressors, anxieties, and worries by engaging in activities and hobbies that you enjoy. This could be reading, drawing, or participating in a sport. Actively doing these things every day can help with any emotional irregularities.

3. Feeling Chronically Tired

Feeling chronically tired is nothing to overlook. If you are getting enough sleep every night, yet still feeling incredibly lethargic, it could be due to your hormones. Get your hormones checked and follow through with any advice from your doctor. For the time being, continue to practice good sleep hygiene, talk with the Lord before you go to bed, and try to avoid thinking about the stressors of the impending day.

Feeling tired after a long run is one thing, but if you are chronically tired regardless of what you do, then it is time to get checked out. You deserve the proper care and treatment. Never feel guilty for seeking out the support and care that you need. Once your hormones are regulated, you will begin to feel like yourself again.

4. Weight Gain

Feeling hungry all the time often makes us think of diabetes; however, having dysregulated hormones can also have the same effect. What do your eating habits currently look like? Are you constantly craving processed foods, sweets, or carbs? This could be due to your hormones being out of balance.

Sadly, especially for women, it is common to feel guilty for these cravings. Rather than talking about their concerns, many women hide their struggles due to fear of judgment. If this is true for you, know that there is nothing wrong with talking to a medical doctor about what you are experiencing. They will not make you feel bad for your cravings, nor condemn you for weight gain.

Instead, they will help you regulate your emotions through medicine, therapy, and lifestyle changes. Weight gain is a common side effect of dysregulated hormones, but the good news is that there are many things you can do to fix it. Once your hormones are balanced once again, the weight will naturally fall off. You will be back to eating normal habits again and you will not experience extreme hunger fluctuations.

5. Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common symptom of many people when their hormones are out of balance. When you have been combing your hair in the morning, do you notice spots that do not have hair? Or maybe you have noticed your hair becoming thinner? Either of the signs are a clear indicator that your hormones are out of balance.

Yet again, there is no reason to fear. Once your hormones are balanced again, your hair will grow healthily again. You might need special shampoo and conditioner for a little while to help your hair regain its natural complexion; however, your hair loss will not be permanent. Your hair will grow back; trust the process.

6. A Missed Period

The most obvious sign of your hormones being out of balance is a missed menstrual cycle. How many weeks pass by before you have a period? If your period is coming too soon or too late, it is a clear indicator your hormones are out of balance. Schedule an appointment with your gynecologist this week and talk with them about your missed period. Your gynecologist will be able to run tests to find out why your hormones are out of balance.

It can be scary to miss a period, but try to remember that this is only temporary. Your hormones will become balanced with the proper care, and you will not have to worry about missing a period again. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are having heavy periods, you need to see a gynecologist as well. A heavy period can also be a sign that your hormones are not working as they should. In either case, you will be able to get the quality care you deserve.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it might be your body’s way of telling you that your hormones are out of balance. Rather than ignoring the signs, take time to care for yourself and seek guidance from a trusted medical professional. With the right support, healthy habits, and prayer, balance can be restored. Remember, God cares about your well-being and wants you to live with peace, strength, and renewed health each day.
