Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and faster when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals and values are in balance.
-Brian Tracy

From "Choices in Healing," by Michael Lerner, Ph.D., p. 27 in Breast Cancer: Beyond Convention, Edited by Mary Tagliaferri, Isaac Cohen and Debu Tripathy:

I believe that when you are diagnosed with breast cancer-of indeed any other serious illness-five great provinces of choice open up before you, whether you are aware of them or not. And I believe that developing a conscious awareness of these provinces of choice, whether you are presently ill or not, can change your life for the better.

These five provinces are: Choices in healing Choices in conventional therapies Choices in complementary or alternative therapies Choices in dealing with pain, grief, and suffering Choices in facing death and dying

Indeed, every human being, in the course of a lifetime, implicitly makes choices in these five provinces of healing.

But the sad truth is that most people never recognize they are making these choices. They are never given the opportunity to consider how much difference making these choices consciously, with as much wisdom as they can summon up, can make, both for them and for those they care about.
