Joan Borysenko
Scientist, mystic, holistic spiritual teacher

Dr. Joan Borysenko has been called a rare jewel: respected scientist, gifted psychologist, and unabashed mystic. As author or coauthor of 13 books and numerous audio and video programs, including the Public Television special "Inner Peace for Busy People," she has become one of the nation's leading voices in the development of mind-body medicine and holistic spirituality. Her doctorate in medical sciences is from the Harvard Medical School, where she was an instructor in medicine until 1988. Also a licensed psychologist, Dr. Borysenko was cofounder and former director of the Mind-Body clinical programs at two Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals, now merged as the Beth Israel/Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. These programs were the foundation for her 1987 best-seller, "Minding the Body, Mending the Mind."

In 2004 she cofounded the Claritas Institute for Interspiritual Inquiry and the Claritas Spiritual Mentor Training Program, an 18-month onsite/online certificate program in spiritual direction. She is also the president of Mind/Body Health Sciences, LLC in Boulder, CO.

Dr. Borysenko's popular column, "Staying Centered, " is published monthly in Prevention Magazine, and her inspirational reflections are a regular feature on the Hallmark Channel's "New Morning" program. Her next book, "The Golden Compass: Living a Spiritually Guided Life, " written with her husband Gordon Dveirin, will be published in August 2007. Dr. Borysenko provides seminars and workshops internationally.
