Socializing should be considered an important part of your job search. Referrals from friends and relatives are an important source for making new job contacts. One word of caution: Getting wasted is not pretty. Use discretion and be sure your party behavior reflects your work standards.

- The best most people can do is to make an introduction. Don't expect anyone else to get you a job. That's up to you.

- Make yourself useful. Do you share a common interest in a social or political cause that local business leaders support? Volunteer.

- Get on a committee, or take on a volunteer job with the best business organization you know of. This is your chance to impress.

If you're affiliated with a spiritual community, head on over and speak to the (Wo)Man in charge. Yes, definitely add prayer to your job search. And also speak to clergy, lay leaders, and fellow members. Let them know you're on the market.

Tip: Many religious communities provide networking opportunities, training, or connections to local vocational agencies.

- Get involved with an appropriate group. If the place you pray doesn't have one, start it yourself.

- Offer help to get help. Show your can-do spirit with deeds of kindness to others. You'll be noticed.

- Seek and ye shall find.
