Reverend Bob Thompson is not what you'd expect from an ordained Baptist minister. A life long disciple of spirituality, religion and prayer, his writings and sermons have caused quite a bit of controversy.
From referencing God as a woman to speaking of God as a "concept" instead of an entity, his rhetoric is interfaith in nature from a Christian pulpit. He says,
"The highest purpose of religion is to create a container for spirituality. It's easy to worship the container and forget the contents. An open-minded approach to faith respects the container not as an end in itself, but as a way to express and give meaning to the spiritual."
When it comes to faith and prayer, he uses the saying: "first you leap, then you grow wings." Experience is what teaches. You cannot think yourself into a new way of living. You must live yourself into a new way of thinking.
