Feature: Be True to Yourself

Politicians and preachers have something in common - besides occasional sex scandals and corruption - and that is, the uncanny ability to always stay "on message."

There's a lesson to be learned from our political leaders about staying on message but straying from the truth. It's great to be able to stay on message, but too many times we're dissappointed when fact-checkers catch an outright lie, or truth stretched too far.

Our religious leaders are better examples of speaking the truth and staying on message. Yet the pulpit and an audience with nowhere else to go can encourage a preachy message or a boring delivery.

It's easy to unknowingly fall into the bad habits we're quick to recognize. But there's one sure-fire way to make it all work: Be true to yourself.

Your true self knows the importance of communicating in an honest, smart, and respectful way. So be true to yourself. Find out what you stand for. Be about something. Blaze your own trail.
