Holidays are made for boys and girls. No matter how old you are, there’s something special about having a day off in summer to watch fireworks and celebrate independence.

Lindsey was planning a bar-b-que on the 4th of July for family and a few friends. She made a checklist of everything she needed, invited the clan, and got busy getting ready for the big event.

Her son Max is eight. He’s excited to see his cousins and to play with all the kids his age. Julie is just three. She’s not sure what’s going on, but she knows it’s going to be fun.

The only one who wasn’t looking forward to 4th at the Fredericks' house, was Lindsey’s husband Tim. He’d rather spend his time under quieter circumstances.

When the first car rolled into the driveway, Tim began to feel the excitement. It crept up slowly. He looked around at Lindsey’s stars and stripes decorations. The fort Max built to welcome his little guests. And finally he spotted Julie. She had a ballerina tutu over her jean shorts, standing on the tiptoes of her Crocs, twirling around and around, with a great big smile on her very happy little face.

Sometimes it takes a little break from routine to cause you to open your eyes to the joy around you. May this holiday be one filled with appreciation for the love of family, friends, God, and country.
