GardenofFeeding

We sometimes feel things have to be big to have impact.

I have always wanted a grand garden of beautifully designed rows of flowers and greenery. The problem is, I don’t have a green thumb.  The solution: a container garden. Pots and planters hold groupings of the very same flowers and greenery I imagined on a larger scale.

My garden has two bird feeders, but no birds. Location, location, location. I made a small change. I moved the feeders two feet to the south, and now the birds are flocking to my yard.

I stand at my kitchen window and look out in awe. I’m filled with gratitude to be witness to the busy intersection of colorful birds who have found a new place to dine. Like my small garden, a small prayer can reap big benefits.

Small is good.

Small World

Every time I run into a friend
I haven't seen in decades,
she says, "small world."
But in truth, it's really quite large.
Big enough to accommodate small minds,
shuttered hearts, and hurtful habits.
Big enough for you, me,
and even whole countries.
Resurrect the faith we may have lost.
Build us up again
when we're crumbled to the core.
Walk beside my brother who doesn't believe.
Lead him not to the place of fervor,
but of quiet calm.
Comfort those who believe
and those who don't.
We share the same sky,
sea, earth, and future.

"WHAT DO YOU TREASURE THAT IS SMALL?"
