Finding Hope in Ferguson

As store owners worked to pick up broken glass and debris from their property after two-week of violent protests, and vandalism—someone offered kindness. The shooting death of an unarmed Michael Brown by a police officer sparked outrage across the nation dividing residents and the police. Business owners also were victims. But a man came into a hair salon, barber shop among other stores offering 100 dollars to help rebuild the community. Salon owner Dellena Jones business sustained damage with the front door to her shop being smashed. The stranger was described as an elderly white man who lived in Ferguson for years, and he did not want to be identified, only to offer encouragement.

Prayer under Fire

Fort Meyers senior Sam Turner reached the end zone for his first career touchdown. Teammates buzzed with excitement, but not everyone was supportive after the 16-year-old fell to one knee and thanks God. When he returned to his feet, a yellow flag was called along with 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Turner said he was confused at first he told News-Press.com, and even more surprised when he was told he was bringing to much attention to himself.

I was like, ‘Are you seriously flagging me right now? What did I do wrong? Eventually the ref came up and talked to me and said I was trying to bring attention to myself and I was trying to explain to him that that wasn’t the case at all. I wasn’t trying to bring attention to myself I was just trying to thank God.”

The campaign #BringBackOurGirls has helped launch international efforts to save the 276 Nigerian school girls kidnapped by Islamic extremist in April. The message reached Hollywood, Main Street, and the White House. Islamic militants of Boko Haram, a terrorist organization located in northeast Nigeria, abducted the girls with guns from their school dormitory in the town of Chibok, south of the state. Nigerian military took to three weeks to visit the village, providing little muscle to the estimated 200 invaders. According to Amnesty International the military did not have soldiers or enough time to respond. Searching for the girls over 60,000 square kilometers of forest would be another challenge for rescuers. It was reported that 57 girls escaped, but there has been no reports of any rescues or if there were any further successful escapes.
