Tornado Outbreak

April 27 - 30: A tornado outbreak in the central and southern US produced multiple long track tornadoes. Seven were deadly causing 35 fatalities and 200 injuries. A total of 84 tornadoes over a period of the four days were confirmed.

The Red Cross has assisted families with finding shelter and provided them with the necessary items to feel comfortable - such as blankets, clothing, tolietries and other home good items. Residents were provided with federal aid and granted low-cost loans to rebuild their homes, if they were without insurance. In Baltimore the CSX line was inoperable for several weeks. Crews worked over-time shifts to reassemble and mend the railway so that goods could be transported for sale and trades.

Gulf Coast Winter Storm

January 2014: Winter storm impacted the Eastern and South Eastern U.S., as well as Mexico, most notably the Gulf Coast region, which rarely receives frozen precipitation. This area had not received a winter storm in over a decade. Hundreds of children sought shelter in their schools and were not released because buses could not safely enter the roadways. Thousands of motorists were stuck on highways and interstates because of the pile ups due to the icy conditions.

The area has now budgeted for extreme conditions. While the events of the storm seriously impacted residents, they were able to resolve motorists issues with insurance claims and FEMA provided funds to areas that were flooded due to the extreme snow.
