10 Important Facts on the Holocaust
Also known in Hebrew as Ha-Shoah, the Holocaust began when Adolf Hitler came to power on January 30, 1933 and ended on May 8, 1945. Concentration camps were organized after Hitler came to power with the help of local police, citizens, and supporters with his dreams of creating a master race of Aryans. By 1939 Germany invaded neighboring Poland created ghettos in cities where thousands of Jews worked and lived in cramped spaces, with their resources cut. Protection Squadrons (SS) in 1925, and killed gypsies, gays, Christians, or anyone a threat to the “elite race.” About 11 million people were murdered during this reign of terror--the world would never be the same again.
