May 24, 2002 -- NEW YORK - JetBlue Airways Corp., the low-fare carrier that has all leather plane seats and satellite TV for every passenger, teamed with a unit of Bally Total Fitness Holding Corp. to offer an in- flight yoga program.
The carrier plans to provide yoga instruction cards at each seat showing four poses that can be achieved without removing the seatbelt. Bally's Crunch Fitness International unit will also equip the New York-based airline's terminal at JFK International Airport with punching bags.
JetBlue, formed two years ago and one of the few U.S. carriers to post a first-quarter profit, has marketed itself as a trendy carrier with an upscale product at a bargain price.
The carrier's April initial public stock sale raised $158.5 million and was one of the most successful this year.
The yoga poses are designed as much for humor as for fitness.
Among the poses is the Bidalasana, which the card says will allow passengers to reach "an astral plane where pillows are no longer necessary."
