How to Keep Your Relationship Healthy and Strong

Are you wondering how to keep your relationship healthy and strong? Are you wondering what extra efforts you should put in to save your relationship? Or, are you worried and thinking what wrong are you doing? First, here's a totally honest fact: relationship advice doesn't work. Relationships are like snowflakes. Not one relationship is the same. I have been giving relationship advice and taking relationship advice for years, and discovered that the things that truly make relationships work are the things that only the two people within the relationship have discovered on their own. It is the effort by the both partners that makes a beautiful relationship, and once the effort is gone, there is a chance of separation. If you have run out of ideas at the moment and you're afraid that you and your partner are about to sail away from each other, though, these general tips may help you. Try each of them and keep doing the ones that work.

Show some love.

You don't have to wear a red shirt and wave around a red, heart-shaped placard to show your partner some love. Um...if you want to, then do it. There is nothing illegal about it. If you don't want to look silly like Tom Cruise when he was jumping on a sofa for Katie Holmes, though, there are little ways through which you can show how much you love your partner.

Smile at your partner often. Experts say couples who smile at each other have healthier relationships.

Show happiness when they meet you and return the caring words they tell you. Wear the clothes that your partner likes, and do the things that your partner likes. If your partner likes your yellow outfit, then wear that yellow outfit more often. Text them often. Do nice things for them.

Spend quality of time together.

When you spend so much time away, love starts to fade away. They keep saying that true love will stay forever, no matter what happens. But movies about lovers separated by wars become famous only because that is what everyone wants to believe, and it isn't true. Real life love requires togetherness.

Find some free time from the things you do, and then spend some time with them, just with them, just the two of you, talking and thinking about each other. You can just hang out and talk, or you can do things that both of you like. The activities you choose could be cooking, travel, or other fun things you can do together. Choose anything that both of you will love.

When you have to spend some time away from each other, share jokes on Skype, post your favorite links on each other’s social media pages, or play multi-player games together. This will keep you both in love even when you're far away from each other.

Become an expert on your partner.

People are different. Just because your best friend's partner has a certain personality and does a certain thing doesn't mean your partner will do the same. It is important to know your partner well. Know them, until you can almost be them.

Know the way your partner thinks. You don't have to be a forensic psychologist or psychic. Spending time with someone and loving them will naturally let you know a lot about them. Know the things they like, the things they don't like, the things they fear, the things they desire, etc. Being the expert on your partner can be a fulfilling experience that will help your relationship thrive.

Learn to show appreciation.

Feel appreciation for your partner. Don't just appreciate them for being your partner, appreciate them also as a person. Count all of the good things about them, and then count all of the good things that they did for you. Pay attention to every good thing they do for you.

After feeling appreciation for your partner, show them your appreciation. Thank them for the good things they do. Try to return their good actions. Give them the things they like. Make them happy and love them.

Tell them you appreciate them. Tell them you love the things they do for you. One of the things that destroy a relationship is when both partners feel unappreciated.

Seek to understand not agree.

We usually fall in love when we find someone who we think is a lot like us. It's that magical moment in your life when you see this person who is a reflection of you. They just do everything right. After some time, though, they suddenly seem so different.

We often hear women complaining, "He has become different."

Men also complain, "She changed."

It isn't that they don't love you anymore, it's just that life got in the way and they are themselves. We all change and the truth is that people are different from each other. There might be similarities between you two, but you're still not the same.

We all go through difficult things, and people have their reasons for being the way they are. As long as they are still with you and they're not hurting you, understand them and accept your differences.
