6 Body Language Clues That Mean He's Into You

Men can be tough to read. Spend time with one, and you’ll soon notice that his face doesn’t often betray what he feels. You can’t tell what he’s thinking. And, even worse, if this guy is interested in you, he can become even less expressive in an effort to appear cool.

If this guy happens to be your crush, this can be very frustrating. How are you even supposed to know if he’s into you at all if he has the emotionality of a stone?

But beneath that exterior, men do, in fact, have emotions—incredibly vivid ones. And although these emotions are the same ones you feel and express every day, the feelings of men get translated into the external world in very different ways. They’re expressed subtly, in small gestures, mannerisms, and movements.

In summary, a man’s emotions are often expressed through his body language—a language that is surprisingly consistent across men of all types.

And so to help you tell if your crush has you on his mind, let’s take a look at 7 body language clues that will let you know if he’s into you.

The "Open" Face

It may be subtle and even a little hard to notice, but when a guy is into you, his face will show it.

Look first to the eyebrows. Most people subconsciously use expressions that help open their eyes when they see something they desire, so if he’s lifting those brows, that’s a big clue. And if his pupils are huge, which occurs when people are attracted to something, that’s an added bonus.

Second, look to his mouth. If his lips remain parted, that’s another sign. And if he’s actually smiling and showing teeth? That’s absolutely fantastic.

Third—and this one is hardest to spot—keep an eye out for flared nostrils. If he’s excited to see you, he’ll often breathe just a little harder, flaring his nostrils for greater airflow.

All of these—raised brows, parted lips, and flared nostrils, combine to create an “open” expression that tells you that he’s definitely into you.

The Hands on His Hips, Elbows Out

Does your man-crush place his hands on his hips when you’re around, and thrust his elbows out to the sides? He might just be trying to get your attention.

This posture makes a guy look bigger—it takes up a lot of space, and shows a guy’s physical superiority to other guys in the room. It could be him saying “Okay, guys I want to pursue this one,” with that “one” being you.

It’s also a sign that he’s internally waving around like the inflatable balloon guys you see in used car lots, and he’s desperately hoping to get your attention. This pose is all about the “look at me” display.

He’s seeking attention. And if he’s turned squarely toward you as he does this? It means that he wants yours! So if you see your crush doing this, it might be time to let him know just how you feel.

The Touch

Okay, so this one’s obvious, but just in case it’s not, let’s talk about touch. When a guy is interested in you, he’s probably going to start reaching for you.

Now, there are two versions of this. The first is the guy who uses touch in a socially appropriate way, finding little excuses to brush your shoulder or touch your hand when you both share a laugh. As long as you’re okay with this, it’s fine.

And then there’s the guy who touches too much, and goes way past your comfort zone. Get away from this guy.

That being said, when one of the good ones is into you, he’s going to take his time. He’s not going to rush touch. He’s going to smile and tuck your hair behind your ear. He’s going to touch your knee when you make him laugh. He might even go out on a limb to gently touch your face.

But when he obviously takes his time, you know he’s not only physically into you, but he’s into getting to know you—and that’s a great thing.

The Toe Point

Would you believe that a person’s feet can be one of the most accurate portraits of their thoughts? It’s true!

The direction in which a person points their feet indicates where they want to be. This counts equally for people who are in a standing position, and those who are seated.

The guy who points his feet toward you—especially if it seems just a little out of place, like if he’s talking to someone else—wants to be talking to you. He wants to be near you.

You have his interest.

Foot pointing happens before a guy even turns his body to face the object of his interest, so if he’s otherwise engaged, a quick look at his feet will tell you where he really wants to be.

If a guy is actively talking to you, check to see if he has one foot placed forward of the other, and if that foot is pointing toward you—if it is, that’s a pretty good sign he’s very interested in you.

The Smooth, Button, or Straighten

Ah, the old smooth, button, and straighten. It’s an age-old body language trick that most men will do if they’re interested in you.

Imagine you’re at the dinner table with a group of friends, including your crush. He’s wearing a nice suit jacket and tie, and maybe a pair of glasses. His hair looks great.

Now, as the two of you are going about your night, you notice him straighten his tie one too many times. He smooths his hair. He buttons and unbuttons his jacket.

These aren’t just nervous habits. They may mean he wants your attention.

Motions like this are just that—motion. They’re movement. They catch attention by their very nature. And if your crush is doing this, he’s probably trying to get yours.

Like the “hands on hips” gesture, this bit of body language can mean that your crush is internally waving his arms at you, saying “look at me”.

Well, it may just be time to look.

The Facial Stroke

Is your man-friend touching his face a lot as he speaks with you? Are his fingers moving from his lips to his ears to his cheeks? This is a big, big sign that he’s into you.

When we imagine things, sometimes our bodies give subtle clues as to what we’re thinking. And if he’s thinking about things like kissing, he’s going to start touching his lips. If he’s imagining you touching his face, his own hand is going to do it first. Whatever he’s doing is what he wants you to do.

Also a factor is that when a person becomes excited—such as when they’re around someone they’re crushing on—their skin becomes more sensitive, and it simply feels nice to touch the face and neck.

He may also be trying to plant an idea or two in your head—when you see him touching his face, ears, and lips, what pops into your own mind? Duh—doing the same thing.
