6 Ways God's Leading You to the One

There is someone out there for everyone, and almost everyone wants to meet that person one day. They imagine what the person looks like, how they talk, what they like to eat and how they will meet. You probably have several daydreams of your own about how you meet the one and how you two come to realize that you are perfect for each other. These daydreams are enjoyable and make you smile. Sometimes, though, you feel frustrated. You are so ready to meet the person you are meant to be with. You might be feeling lonely or simply ready to move on to the next stage of your life. Either way, you want to meet your future spouse, but you have had no luck so far. In moments like those, it can be tempting to wonder if the one for you is even out there. Do not despair. God is working to lead you to the right person. You may not be able to recognize His actions at first, but He is leading you through little things that seem like coincidences. With that in mind, here are six ways that God is leading you to the one.

Things You Can’t Let Go Of

Everyone has hobbies and interests, and they grow and change as each person does. This means that many people outgrow hobbies and change interests. Sometimes, however, there is a hobby or interest that you continue to hold on to for no apparent reason. Maybe you cannot seem to stop yourself from renewing your pass to the national park even though you hate hiking. Maybe you should totally have stopped watching Spongebob, but you still look forward to the cartoon. These little hobbies and interests are sticking around for a reason. God is insisting you keep those habits in your life even if you cannot tell why at the moment. It might be that your future spouse works at or near the national park, and you will meet them there one day. Perhaps your embarrassing love of Spongebob will act as the icebreaker when you encounter the one. When things will not leave you alone, it is because they have not finished serving their purpose yet.

Repeated Invitations to Something From Friends

Friends normally know what sort of things you like and dislike. They know that you like to go out on Saturday night, but Fridays are meant for pajamas and take out. They know that you like to go hiking but hate seeing movies in theaters. They know you inside and out, but sometimes they keep insisting you go do something you know you will not like. They might keep trying to get you to go dancing when you prefer to sit quietly and listen to your music. They might want you to go hiking when you hate heat, bugs and plants. If they will not stop asking you to join them in something, there is a reason for it. Those strange activities may be where or how God plans to have you meet the one. God works through other people, and your friends are an easy way for Him to reach you. So, if they keep asking, take them up on the invitation. You might be surprised.

Things You Feel You Should Do

Most people are very familiar with the feeling of having something they do not want to do but that they should do. This sense can be associated with unpleasant necessities like paying bills or going to the dentist. It can also have to do with things you feel you are obligated to do for family, cultural or religious reasons. You may feel that you should go to your in-law’s for Thanksgiving even though you would prefer to wrestle a bear rather than face your sister-in-law’s shrill voiced gossip. You might feel that you should go to church on Christmas morning when all you want to do is sleep in for a few extra minutes. You might feel like you should watch the presidential debates even though you cannot stand either candidate. Sometimes, you may also feel that you should do something and have no readily apparent reason why you should. There is no sense of obligation that is making you do something, but the idea of skipping it makes you feel guilty anyway. This may be a sign that God is pushing you towards it, and that thing you do not want to do might just be how you meet the one.

Breaks From Routines

Most people are creatures of habit. They have routines they follow faithfully every day. These may be as small as turning on the coffee maker as soon as they get out of bed or a larger routine that encompasses what tasks they do on a given day of the week. Most people do not deviate from those routines once they are set. Sometimes, however, people break their routines for no apparent reason. They may simply decide to stop for coffee on the way to work rather than make coffee at home. They might decide to go out for brunch after church rather than eat before the service. These little breaks from routine can be deeply important. Routines, while helpful in organizing your life and keeping you on track, can cause you start to live your life on autopilot. When that happens, you may miss what is right in front of you even if what is right in front of you is your future spouse.

New Friends

New friends in your life could also be a way that God is leading you to the one. One of those new friends could end up being more than just a friend, but even if one of your new friends is not the one, they may be your key to meeting the one. New friends have siblings, cousins, coworkers and other friends. When it comes to meeting new people, never doubt the value of a friend of a friend. One of the other people you meet through new friends could end up being the one.

New friends also bring new opportunities with them. You might join a new friend at their church picnic and meet someone special. A new friend might talk you into going hiking. You find that you love it and join a local hiker’s club where you meet the one. There is almost no limit to the number of new doors that new friends open.

Random Coincidences

Sometimes strange things happen in life. You might run into an old flame at the grocery store years after you last saw them. You might discover that an old high school friend has moved to the same city as you, and their sibling is single. You might find yourself striking up a conversation with a stranger while you are both waiting in an endless line at the local coffee shop. These little coincidences can be easy to put out of your mind, but they may be the way that God maneuvers the one into your life. The stranger at the coffee shop could be the one, or their best friend might be the one. Perhaps the old flame was the one for you, but the timing was not right for you two to realize it. Coincidences are not just coincidences. God has a purpose for everything even if you do not realize what that purpose is.
