Most Christian men are ultimately hoping to find a woman who reflects Christ, someone who they can be committed with in a marriage, in union with God. But the sinful world we live in can really throw many Christian men off track, causing them to act in ways that are not of God, which hurts not only them but the people they are involved with. Even good Christian men make mistakes on their relationship journey. Too often, certain things will show up during the dating phase that will sabotage their relationships. Here are five mistakes single Christian men make with relationships. Are you making these mistakes on the road to finding God’s match?

Not Always Seeking God

It’s important that Christian men seek God’s guidance and direction on their relationship journey. But too often, men will rely on their own logic as opposed to talking with God when pursuing, or being involved with someone. They will let go of good women for selfish reasons, holding off until they think they’ve found “the one,” according to them, only to never find fulfillment. And if you think a woman’s right for you, but are not seeking God’s guidance on your decision, you will run into trouble because you don’t know if the decision is right with God. Even if you don’t think God is speaking to you, He is present, there to tell you who you should and shouldn’t pursue. Seek God in prayer, and lean not on your own understanding, but God’s guidance.

Overlooking Issues of the Mind and Soul

Too many single Christian men neglect focusing on their mental and emotional health, and bring those unresolved issues into their relationship life. Some of these issues include the absence of a father, parental figure, sexual abuse, and relationship conflict among others. This can cause major issues in the relationship, and moving forward with really good partners. Given men are commonly taught to keep things in, and not communicate what’s going on inside, they have trouble expressing themselves and ultimate suppress those emotions. This will cause rifts in your relationship life, and also bring trouble to the mind and soul.

Not Truly Embracing Celibacy

Many Christian men know that celibacy is an ideal to strive for in a biblically-based relationship, but many men, including Christian men, struggle with engaging in sexual activity. It is especially difficult for a man to practice celibacy with a partner if they have already engaged in sex before, or is weak in the flesh. It doesn’t help that we live in a society that promotes sex everywhere, particularly in the media. Engaging in premarital sex, and sex with multiple partners not only can distract you from your relationship with God, but can also cause trouble in your relationships. It is distraction in your relationship and a distraction from God.

Being Involved in Relationships That Don’t Work

Too many men, including Christian men entertain fruitless relationships that they know are going nowhere. They will entertain women they aren’t serious about as they continue to look for God’s true match. This in itself is sinful. You are sinning against your own body, and not being truthful with the woman you are involved with about where your heart is, or where the relationship is going. Women should not be distractions while you deal with your own emotional drama. Christian men should align themselves with women who glorify God who they want to build a long-term relationship with, not women that will hinder their personal growth and development with God.
