French toast is already a classic, but this crispy version takes it to another level. Instead of the usual soft texture all the way through, this recipe adds a golden, crunchy exterior that contrasts perfectly with the tender center. It’s made with simple ingredients like eggs, milk, and bread, but a small twist in technique creates a much more satisfying bite. Whether you’re making breakfast for yourself or serving a crowd, this dish brings a little extra excitement to the table.
Ingredients
-
1 cup milk
-
4 eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
-
3 Tablespoons sugar
-
6 1-inch slices sourdough or French bread
-
Cornflakes
-
Melted butter
Step 1:
Combine milk, eggs, vanilla, nutmeg and sugar. Dip bread slices in milk mixture and roll in crushed cornflakes.
Step 2:
Put in buttered skillet over low heat and brown 5 minutes on each side.
NOTE: To serve, butter and sprinkle toast with cinnamon and top with maple syrup. The cornflakes give this fabulous French toast extra crunch.
Crispy French toast is a simple upgrade that makes a big difference in both texture and flavor. It’s easy to prepare but feels like something special every time you make it. Once you try it this way, it’s hard to go back to the standard version.
