INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups sifted flour
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
TO PREPARE:

Place milk, sugar, and shortening in saucepan.  Scald milk.  Remove from heat, add salt, and cool to lukewarm.  Dissolve yeast in two tablespoons warm water and add to mixture.  Beat in flour and knead.  Let rise to double bulk and knead again.
Break dough into balls the size of a large marble.  Dip into melted butter; then roll in sugar and cinnamon mixture and then in pecans.
Place loosely in greased cake pan.  Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.  Turn pan upside down on cake plate and cool.  This allows any syrup in bottom of pan to pour over ring and hold it together.
Each person breaks off a bite-size ball from ring.
