However, there are people who are very lonely and who lose their fa-la-la’s during the holiday season. Maybe your plans to celebrate the holiday fell through, or there are no family members or friends near. Perhaps you are one of those people who want to be solo after a breakup or traumatic event and the thought of being cheerful puts a knot in your stomach. With the media, movies, and images of Christmas trees sweeping the nation soon, you don’t have to be in despair about being alone. You can take charge of this time and make the most out of it. No matter what you think a “perfect” Christmas should look like, being alone has its perks and here 4 of them.

Connect with Others

If you are alone this season, find people to connect with that are fun and inspiring. You can’t control a lot of things in life, but you can go out and meet people and socialize. If there is no one around, get going. Join a church, a community group, or make a point to get to know the neighbors by bringing a tray of cookies. You might open your home up to invite people to a post Christmas party. Make sure to send an email out to people weeks in advance! You never know you might get invited to join them. If these ideas are not appealing and you are an introvert, buy a ticket to visit a loved one. Do whatever it takes, especially if you don’t want to ride the holiday solo.
