Is it OK to Share Your Faith in the Workplace?

Two of the biggest reasons for not sharing faith are, 1) “people don’t know how” and 2) “they are afraid,” says Moyer. People fear they may lose their job, or upset someone in the workplace, or that they just don’t know how to bring up a spiritual conversation.

“Sometimes the fear of not knowing how to turn a conversation to spiritual things, the fear of not knowing how to present the gospel, the fear of not being certain that you can answer question and objections, the fear of rejection or the fear of the time it is going to take to follow up on someone should they come to Christ,” says Moyer, are the hesitations that we all face when presenting the Gospel anywhere, the workplace especially.

With the job on the line

In these times, jobs are few and far between. So how do you approach sharing your faith with your job on the line? Moyer says, “A lot of it comes down to common sense. In my book Show Me How to Share Christ in the Workplace, I share how a person must always bear in mind that the boss is paying you to work, he’s not paying you to witness.” Moyer goes on to talk about being careful not to overstep the boundaries of the workplace, but the fact is “there are so many times with peers in the workplace, you can build a bridge that then allows you to talk about Christ during a break, over lunch, or after hours.” The idea isn’t changing your job, but changing the relationships at the place you work.

How to prepare

“First of all, you have to learn a method,” says Moyer. has authored evangelism-focused books such as Show Me How to Share the Gospel, Show Me How to Answer Tough Questions and Show Me How to Preach Evangelistic Sermons among others.

His ministry has taken him through the United States and to more than sixty foreign locations as a speaker in churches, area-wide outreaches, camps, pastors’ conferences and seminars on evangelism. He is an evangelistic speaker for EvanTell’s Operation Friendship weekends and Wild Game Feasts, both of which target the non-Christian. He is a regular guest lecturer in evangelism at Word of Life Bible Institute in New York and Florida and visiting professor at Dallas Theological Seminary.

In Show Me How to Share Christ in the Workplace, he suggests strategies such as the “Bad News/Good News approach,” learning how to turn conversations spiritual, overcoming fear, how to answer objections and how to follow-up with new believers.
