Unclogging a Sink, Bathtub or Shower Drain
First, put on a pair of dishwashing gloves. Remove the drain cover and use pliers to clean out any debris, like hair or bits of food. Seal off overflow holes with a wet cloth, and then place a flat-rimmed plunger over the drain to create a seal. Move the plunger up and down quickly for 60 seconds, then release. If the clog doesn’t go down the pipe, repeat a couple more times.
Tip: To dissolve clogs, pour 3/4 cup baking soda into the drain, followed by 1/2 cup white vinegar. Plug the drain and let the mixture sit. After 30 minutes, unplug it and slowly pour boiling water down the drain to rinse.
