7 Tips for Youthful Energy

You may find yourself comparing your energy to a young child’s bountiful energy. They run, play, laugh, explore and sleep well. They jump out of bed nice and early, ready to do it all over again without any plans of stopping until bedtime.

As we get older, many adults complain of not having enough energy during their days. We are working, taking care of others and barely have time to re-energize or relax. Usually it feels there just isn’t enough hours to get everything completed. We head to bed feeling exhausted, depleted and unaccomplished. We then wake up unable to feel well-rested and ready for a new day.

Unfortunately, we struggle to produce natural energy since we rely so heavily on caffeine, energy drinks and sugar to get us through the day. However, it is possible to feel that child-like energy again. Start imagining life as a child. Everything was exciting, fresh, and vibrant. Joy was found in simple things such as sunshine, sand and time with friends. We didn’t need to search outside of ourselves for energy and happiness.

We may not be able to turn back time, but here are a few ideas to feel more energized and excited about life. These simple tips will also help to balance your mood and improve your productivity.

What are some of your best memories from childhood? Maybe it was playing baseball, hide-n-seek, dolls or building a snowman with friends. Those were the days, right? We had enough energy to keep playing until it was dark. As adults we rarely make time for playing. We are used to thinking about what needs to get done. Try to think about something you can do with family or friends that incorporates play. Board games, team sports, and coloring are fun activities that get you out of your head and into your body. Maybe turn music on and dance while you clean your house. Notice how your energy is after you play. You may notice an increase in your motivation and productivity rather than wanting a nap.
