Caitlyn JennerTIME recognized Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, for her efforts and bravery within the LGBT society by featuring her on the short list of TIME’s 2015 Person of the Year. Jenner told TIME, “Hopefully by telling my story, I can make people think.” In 2015, Jenner made the transition from Bruce to Caitlyn when she announced that she identified as a transgendered individual. She has used her personal journey as a platform to advocate for trans -rights.

In her time TIME interview Jenner discussed why she felt 2015 was the right time to publicly announce her transformation. “A couple years back when I wound up back in Malibu, all by myself, with the same problems I had when I was 10 years old, I thought what the heck am I going to do with my life? I had a lot of conversations with my family, my close friends, with my pastor, with God, and kind of came to a revelation, that maybe I should be honest with myself about who I am and let that person – this woman who has lived inside of me for my entire life – finally have an opportunity to live.”

Jenner believes that she was put on earth to tell her story and fight for the LGBT community. Despite winning an Olympic medal and inspiring people with her motivational speeches, as Bruce, Caitlyn didn’t feel like she was really doing anything with her life. She said in the TIME interview that she is not a spokesperson for the LGBT community yet instead a communicator for her own story. It’s only Jenner’s hope that her story will inspire and help others who are struggling with their own gender identity issues.

Jenner believes that exposing transgender elements will ultimately normalize it. And that is one of the primary reasons Jenner is taping the "I Am Cait" docu-series on the E Network because she hopes that her efforts to bring transgender mainstream will truly make a difference within society. Caityln whole-heartedly believes that it’s a privilege to take the message to a worldwide scale. Jenner told TIME, “And because of my position in life, maybe I can make a bigger and faster change of thinking in the world than someone who doesn’t have a platform, so why not use it? So I’m going to use it to the hilt, of course I am.”

Despite the paparazzi and constant media attention that Jenner receives she is choosing to not turn away. Jenner continues to educate herself and those listening to her about the LGBT community. She admits that she doesn’t know everything and surely doesn’t have all of the answers however; neither does the majority of the world. Caitlyn has invited everyone to come along for the ride with an open heart and mind.
