From getting the kids to school in the morning to making a decision as to what’s for dinner, each day seems to have an endless list of to-do’s. And the hustle and bustle infiltrates a cloud that engulfs our day-to-day, making it difficult to come up for air and recognize the many blessings that embody our life each day. In most cases, we take these blessings for granted because they’ve become second nature to us and have become a necessary standard of life. However, it’s important to take a moment each day and remember the small things.

You’re Alive: Work may be stressful, you may be stuck in traffic, or perhaps you received a surprise bill in the mail – while all of these scenarios may seem difficult, it’s important to take a deep breath and remember that you’re alive. Things could be worse but right now they’re not. God granted you another day to fulfill your life’s plan and it’s important to be grateful for that blessing because tomorrow is never promised.

Running Water: There are many countries that do not have the luxury (yes, luxury) of running water. It’s important not to take for granted the ability to turn on a faucet and have flowing H20. Find happiness in knowing that you don’t have to walk to a local water source and carry heavy buckets of water back to your home.

Freedom: Each day is filled with the opportunity of choice. You can decide what you’re going to eat, wear and the activities that you’ll engage in. Some people do not have the freedom and opportunity of choice. When you’re feeling discouraged and conflicted, take a second and think about the choices you’re able to make on a daily basis.

People: It’s important to remember the people present within our daily life. The stress of life can sometimes cause people to forget about the people in their life – without these individuals living wouldn’t be as happy or fun. It’s important to identify the people that bring joy into your life – whether it is a sibling, spouse or perhaps an acquaintance on your daily train ride into work. Instead of taking people for granted, recognize them and show each person the love that they deserve.

Roof Over Your Head: Maybe it’s not your dream home but when all of the labels are ripped away, it’s a place to call home. Be grateful that you have a roof over your head and count your blessings because not everyone has a place they can call home. So next time you’re scrunching your nose at your surroundings, think about the pros to your current living situation.

Time: Being delayed in traffic or sitting an extra ten minutes in the doctor’s office isn’t always the end of the world. Sometimes down time is exactly what’s really needed. Instead of looking at these extra minutes with a scowling eye, choose to view these moments as an opportunity to catch your breath and redefine your center. It’s important from time-to-time to remove oneself from the chaos and find a realm of serenity to channel into our own life.

There are so many other blessings that get lost within the fast pace we’re choosing to live. It’s important to recognize these miracles and be thankful for their existence because without them we may suddenly feel very lost.
