All of us struggle from time to time with our purpose on this earth. Perhaps this is something you are seeing in your own life; you work an everyday 9-5, but you long to do something more fulfilling and purposeful. Rather than silencing your dreams, consult the Lord in prayer and ask Him to help you see the future He has for you. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Lean into the guidance of the Lord and submit your ways to Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). He will help you to see the wonderful plans He has for your life. As Paul says, “However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Here are 6 signs you’re meant for something greater.

1. Inner Restlessness

If you have an inner restlessness inside your soul, it could be because God has greater plans for you. Are you happy in your current job, home life, or relationship? If you feel like you want more, you are probably meant for something greater. Never underestimate the purpose God has for your life. Possibly, God is causing this inner restlessness in your life.

Don’t fight this feeling; instead, turn to God. Ask Him to help reveal the purpose He has for your life. You may be surprised at the wonderful things He has in store for your life. After all, He is the giver of all good gifts (James 1:17).

2. Longing For Something This World Cannot Give You

The Bible tells us, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). You are destined for something greater if you are constantly longing for something this world cannot give you. This is because you are longing to be with the Lord in Heaven. Don’t try to suppress these feelings, but rather, think about the things you can do now to feel more connected with the Lord.

This could be going to Him in prayer, studying the Bible, and applying the Bible into your life. Look forward to the day you are with Him in Heaven, and keep living each day to its fullest. Each day is a blessing from the Lord; rejoice and be glad (Psalm 118:24).

3. You Have Special Gifts or Skills

What special gifts and skills do you have? Perhaps you're really talented with music or art. Instead of seeing these things as a hobby or an interest, it could be a greater purpose for your life. God has gifted you with your own special gifts and skills; with these gifts and skills, you can stand out from the world and take hold of the wonderful plans God had for your life.

4. A Desire to Serve

Do you have an inner desire to serve? If you do, God may be calling to you something greater. Do you feel called to serve in missionary work or teaching others? Choose to reach out to a mission agency or a school to get everything arranged. Never silence the calling God has placed upon your heart. Having a servants-heart will change your life in many ways and bring your heart closer to the Lord.

5. An Inner Stirring to Help Others

Wanting to help others is a natural overflow of your love for Jesus. The simple desire to help others demonstrates you are meant for something greater. Your life is not meant to be wasted away; instead, you must seize the day! Look at the opportunities around you — in what ways can you help others through these opportunities? Get involved with one of these opportunities and see if it brings an ultimate source of purpose into your heart.

6. You Don’t Fit in With Others

Maybe you have noticed that you don’t fit in with those around you. Rather than seeing this as a bad thing, take joy in knowing that you are uniquely you (Psalm 139:13-14). God has called you to a greater calling; take hold of His plans for you, and live out your faith in your daily life. It is okay not to fit in with everyone around you; it means you are one in a million.

Find joy in your uniqueness and praise God that He has beautiful plans for your life. You are unique and there is no one else like you in the entire world — you are destined for something greater than the American dream, staying at home, or becoming someone you are not. Fitting in with others is not as great as everyone claims it to be. It is better to be the person God created you to be.

There are many ways to tell that you’re meant for something greater, such as an inner restlessness, a longing for something this world cannot offer you, a special gift or skills, a desire to serve, an inner stirring to help others, or you never seem to fit in with those around you. Listen to the calling the Lord has placed upon your heart and don’t put out the Spirit’s fire.
