We all have ideas of what we want our lives to be. Unfortunately, things don't always work out as we hope. You could lose your job, a cherished relationship could end, or a long-term dream may seem just out of reach. It's easy to feel discouraged, but what if you're experiencing redirection rather than rejection? There could be signs God is closing a door.
Missing these signs is something we all do. It's ingrained in us to see losses or seeming failures as negative things. However, this may not always be the case. While it might be hard to see right away, a closed door could be God's way of leading you to something better. That's why it's imperative to recognize these signs and follow God's will for your life.
1. You’ve Lost Peace, Even if Everything Looks Good on Paper
It's easy to think that a change might be necessary in your life when things go wrong. Unexpected relocations, loss of financial stability, and other hurdles make it clear that it's time to change paths. However, God may be closing a door on your behalf – even when everything seems okay.
If your spirit feels unsettled, it could be His signal that there are better things out there for you. The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:15 to let Christ's peace reign in our hearts. This applies even if your job is steady, you're financially secure, and everything else seems okay. Because if your soul isn't settled, what's the point of everything else?
2. You Keep Hitting Roadblocks
One of the key signs God is closing a door occurs when repeated roadblocks keep arising. If it seems like you're facing one obstacle after another, it might not be bad luck or coincidence. Instead, it might be God's way of telling you that you're going in the wrong direction. Don't ignore these signs.
There are specific moments in the Bible when we see God directly interfering with the actions of his children. Acts 16:6 says that He forbade his followers from preaching the Word in Asia. God had other plans, so he put up roadblocks. If it seems like you're repeatedly seeing such roadblocks, it might be time to reconsider God's will for your life.
3. The Opportunity Doesn’t Align With God’s Word
There will be times in life when seemingly great opportunities arise. Even if these new chances aren't so great, they may seem like a Godsend in times of tribulation. However, you need to ask yourself if such opportunities align with the Word of God. If something leads you away from biblical values, it doesn't matter how appealing the path may seem.
In Matthew 16:26, we're asked how a person could profit if they gain the whole world but lose their soul. This is an ever-pressing question, and it's one we should never lose sight of. If something feels like it doesn't align with your faith, that could be a sign that God is closing a door. Remember, His Word should be a lamp unto our feet to guide our way (Psalm 119:105).
4. You’re Forcing Something That Isn’t Working
We've all worked hard for things in our lives. In many cases, achieving our dreams will seem like an uphill battle. Hard work should not be avoided. While God is on our side, James 2:17 tells us that faith without action is dead. However, what if it seems like you're consistently striving for an outcome that isn't manifesting? In such a case, it may not be God's will.
Put simply, God's will for your life will typically come with open doors. This doesn't mean you won't have to put in hard work. You will, but you shouldn't have to force doors open. God's will for your life will not try to evade you. If you keep trying to go down one path but it simply isn't working, it may be time to consider a different way.
5. God is Giving You a New Vision or Redirecting Your Heart
Sometimes, it isn't clear that God wants something different in your life. You'll have to pay close attention to potential signs that God is closing a door. However, this will not always be the case. If you feel a fresh desire, calling, or clarity, it could be a sign that He is pulling you elsewhere. Put simply, a closed door will often put a new motivation in your heart.
Isaiah 43:18-19 tells us to forget the former things in life and not dwell on the past. When you have a new vision or feel God redirecting your heart, it's important to keep your eyes forward. What you leave in the past may put a heavy feeling in your heart. Still, the importance of God's will for your life cannot be overstated.
When God gives you a new vision, make sure you follow it.
No matter how privileged someone's life may seem, no one exists on this earth without facing hurdles. You will encounter difficulties, and a closed door may seem like a tremendous setback. However, this doesn't have to be the end of your story. It could very well be the beginning of a better one.
Remember, we are commanded to put everything into God's hands. Trust that he sees the WHOLE picture even when we cannot. When God says "no," it's often because He's preparing a greater "yes" for our lives.
