Prayers For a Breakthrough in Relationships

Relationships are like gardens, they must be cultivated. One of the most difficult things to restore is a broken relationship. Though it is difficult to do, broken relationships can be restored and as with other issues of life, the Bible has guidance for this. The Bible tells us, “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14). If you’re having problems in your relationship, you are not alone. Remember that sometimes the Lord gives us trials in our life so that we take time to cultivate our relationship with the Lord is right all other relationships on earth fall into place. Relationships, just like gardens are hard work and require constant cultivation. Commitment, humility, time, forgiveness and proper communication are all steps that will lead to restoration in a way that will please the Lord. If you know in your gut that your relationship is worth saving, here are six ways to manage the ups and downs and get your love life back on track.

Prayer For Better Communication

Most problems in relationships are a result of poor communication, or a lack thereof. When an issue arises, instead of immediately getting defensive or jumping on your partner's case, take time to listen to what they have to say, and then offer your suggestion. Sometimes, after a long and stressful day, all your partner wants to have is a listening ear. While your concerns are important, it’s also important they know that you care enough to step back and understand where they're coming from and what they’re going through. Remember, it’s not always about being right, or winning: Dear God, thank you for the relationship I have, although I always pray that it continues to grow! Thank you for working in our lives and leading us through transformation. I lift up my relationship to You and ask that You help us grow in the area of communication. I pray that we can talk to each other kindly and respond in love to each other. Amen.

Prayer For Quality Time

When you’re in a struggling relationship, the last thing on your mind is spending quality time with your significant other but this is crucial if you are committed to restoring your relationship. Schedule some alone time, maybe to one of the first places you and your partner ever went on a date to or step outside the box, and do something you’ve never done before. Then, stay committed to making quality time a regular thing. This may not only reignite lost passion but remind you what things attracted you to them in the first place: Dear Lord, the days seem shorter and shorter as we schedule to do more and more. Our lives are busy, so bust that we spend less quality time with our partners. I pray that we can reconnect after busy days. Help us to have the desire to prioritize special time for each other. Amen.

Prayer For Guidance

Most people cringe when they hear the word "counseling," let alone couple’s counseling but depending on where you are with your partner, talking to a professional, whether it be a minister or therapist, may be exactly what the doctor ordered. Many couples go through ups and downs in their relationships (that’s normal) but it’s the ones who are open to constructive criticism and committed to working on their own faults that survive. Just make sure both of you are on the same page about counseling. Saving a struggling relationship requires two people working together, not one: Dear God, we have no idea where we are going. We don’t send the road ahead of us. We pray that You will lead us by the right road. We trust You always. Amen.

Prayer For Forgiveness

When we hold on to issues from the past, whether big or small, it creates a space for toxic and unhealthy relationships. It’s really hard to let go of pain from the past, especially a pain that has resulted from an issue with the one you love. Many times we hold on to the hurt to protect ourselves from being hurt again, but learning to forgive is the only way to move your relationship forward. If you’re not in a place to practice forgiveness with your partner and know you can never get there with him/her, the relationship cannot be saved: Dear Lord, help us to remember when we first met and the strong love that grew between us. We ask for your words both kind and loving, and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive. Amen.

Prayer For Happiness

Think about your ideal partner and how you know you deserve to be treated, and then transfer that same thought process into your relationship. If you wouldn’t want your partner being ugly to you, don’t immediately result to ugliness when you’re upset or not getting your way. If couples were committed to treating their partners the way they wanted to be treated, there’d be a lot more couples in happy and healthy relationships: Dear Lord, thank you for leading me to my partner. We do not always get along, but I am confident that you specifically chose him/her to be my partner. I pray that you would help me to reconcile with my partner and to bring peace and happiness back into our relationship. Humble us, Lord, take away our pride and anything that keeps Your love from being shared in our relationship. Amen.
