6 Ways to Pray When Your Wife Struggles

Every marriage faces hardship and every situation is unique. If you know your wife is struggling whether it is with anxiety, depression or some other influencer, consider your marriage in good shape. Chances are she’s been struggling for some time before she let you in on her secret. Struggle is not a source of pride for your wife and is not something she may be comfortable letting other people know. If she is brave enough to let you in on her struggle, then it means she feels safe enough to be vulnerable. When people allow themselves to be exposed in their relationships, greater intimacy can be achieved. No matter what the circumstances are – whatever the struggle is – face the difficulty together with your wife. If your wife is feeling overwhelmed, one way you can be a great support to her is through the power of prayer. Here are six ways to pray when your wife struggles.

Pray Scripture Over Her

You can bring good to your wife through prayer – prayer for her integrity, her strengths, her weaknesses, her work – prayer for every aspect of her life. If you aren’t praying for these things for your wife, who is? Do you desire that your wife would feel covered in prayer with intentionality and meaning through Scripture? If you want to be a prayer warrior for your wife and be the best supporter you can be, one of the best things you can do is pray Scripture over her. Identify verses that will lift your wife up during her time of struggle. A great verse to start with is Ephesians 4:1-2. Pray that she lives in accordance with God’s plan for her life.

Pray for Wisdom to Know When to Speak and When to Be Silent

There will come a time when your words will fall on deaf ears, but God’s never will. Pray for wisdom so you know when to speak, and what to speak, and when to be silent so God can speak. The Bible tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5). Pray that God will give you the wisdom to know when to speak to your wife and when to be silent. Also, pray that you will also be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. Our anger doesn’t bring about the righteous life that God desires.
