Prayer is the deepest form of communication that an individual can participate in. So it’s not surprising to know that prayer meetings are extremely valuable for a church because it encourages everyone to come together as a community and discover salvation. Christians have always congregated together to communicate with prayer. Prayer allows an individual to gain a personal relationship with God therefore, a prayer meeting allows a group of people to come together for the same cause. Christians believe that if you talk to God, He will listen.

Like any activity, there are always other elements that can be taken into consideration to help perfect things and allow everyone participating to get the most out of a situation. Many people may think that prayer doesn’t require any guidance. While prayer is supposed to be a natural form of communication, sometimes it’s important to have a general outline to follow. When it comes to a prayer meeting, here are a few tips that might be useful.

It’s important, when engaging in a prayer meeting, for everyone in the assembly to pray to the same individual – God. Through prayer we, as Christians, demonstrate our validation of faith in Jesus. Christians develop their relationship with God through the intimacy of prayer. Not only does prayer allow a personal to build a deep spiritual bond, but it also assists in providing a deeper sense of life because it allows an individual to envision everything on a wider scale.

Therefore, when joining in a prayer meeting it’s important that everyone participating in prayer understands that their Lord and Savior is Jesus Christ. All in all, this knowledge and understanding is one of the most valuable aspects of praying as an individual and as a unit.

Confession

One of the reasons for a prayer meeting is to have the platform to confess our sins. However, it’s important that we confess our sins to God but also to each other. James 5:16 says, “…confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” Through prayer and communication, Christians can utilize prayer meetings to spiritually restore themselves.

Forgiveness is one of the key elements to Christianity. Not only is it important to understand that God forgives His children for their sins, but as a whole we must forgive each other for our own sins as we come together in prayer meetings. Jesus wants his people to encourage and support each other through love and understanding. The fellowship that is developed through a prayer meeting will help to encourage spiritual strength within individuals and overcome other obstacles that happens on a daily basis.

Encouragement

It’s important, during prayer meetings, to encourage fellow Christians without any judgement. Despite our strong following for Jesus Christ it’s impossible to know what will happen on a day-to-day basis. Each day there a string of obstacles and hurdles that we must all overcome. Coming together and praying as a unit is one of the biggest ways we can build encouragement and sustain the daily fight that we all face. Galatians 6:2 says, “…carry each other’s burdens…” and “…fulfill the law of Christ.”

Instead of observing weaknesses, Christians should strive to find the strengths an individual possesses. Or perhaps look for ways a weakness can evolve into a strength. It takes a community for these acts of encouragement to develop and be carried out.

It’s important to orchestrate each prayer meeting with the same general beginning and end. Begin each prayer meeting with a worshiping tone. For example a lot of meetings begin with an insightful and encouraging scripture that helps to set the precedence of the prayer meeting. Distinguish whether or not a short discussion will serve accordingly to keep everyone on track and help to drive the prayer into the appropriate direction.

Make sure there is a senior leader who starts and closes the prayer meeting. It’s okay to have a group of people rotating these duties, but it should be assigned beforehand—these individuals can also act as the rally behind participation. And last but not least set up a meeting with a pastor for other preliminary advice that can serve as useful information.
