7 Bible Verses For the Easter Season

Easter Sunday is a highly anticipated occasion throughout the United States. Families look forward to dying and decorating eggs, wearing our favorite pastel dresses, and enjoying some home cooked food. What makes the holiday really so special and important is of course, Jesus Christ.

After the long journey of Lent, the arrival of the Easter Season is a welcome time of joy and celebration. Easter Sunday is just the beginning, as the season lasts until the feast of Pentecost in the Church’s liturgical year. We are no longer called to fast and do penance but to celebrate the Risen Christ with great elation.

What better way to honor the occasion than reminding ourselves of the prevalent Easter Bible verses? Whether you’re putting together an Easter story, teaching Sunday School, or are making cards for Easter, this is a great collection of Easter Bible Verses, for kids and adults alike. Following are seven Bible verses for reflection and meditation during this time of rejoicing.

Matthew 28:19-20

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”

As Christians, we are called to evangelize—to teach others about the Risen Christ. How can you share your joy with your friends, neighbors and co-workers during this Easter Season? Jesus promised He will be with us, so ask for His help. He can guide you to the person that needs to hear the Word of God the most. He can tell you the best way to share the Lord with them. Invite others to your church, Bible study and the like. Even offer those you know who will be alone on the holiday to come over to dinner. There are great ways to share Jesus with your friends that do not take much effort.

Mark 16:16

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”

There are two requirements Jesus states here—baptism and belief. If you are already baptized, you must believe. Ponder your personal beliefs and reflect on how they relate to Church teachings. Do you have the same beliefs that are listed in the Bible, or are you twisting them to make them fit your lifestyle? If you aren’t following God’s exact orders, you might not be able to get into Heaven. If there are discrepancies, pray for understanding and guidance. Jesus understands how hard it can be to be a Christian - He went through struggles too. Trust in Him and rely on Him for help where you feel that you aren’t living up to your faith.

Acts 1:11

“…’Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven.’”

The Apostles are being told to stop dawdling and get to work in this passage. We are called to do the same. Each one of us has a unique mission to accomplish on earth, and God put you on this earth for a specific reason. Pray for discernment then take action. If you are unsure of what God wants you to do, try to talk with a trusted Christian friend or pastor. They might be able to help you identify your special gifts and how those can be used to spread the Word of God. Do not sit around idly just hoping that God will reveal His plan for you. Get going and make a difference in the world now.

Luke 24:32

“They said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened us to the Scriptures?’”

Reading, meditating upon, and understanding Scripture are essential practices for every Christian. Make time to read, study, and reflect on the Bible. You will learn more about the Christian faith than you ever thought, which will give you a deeper relationship with God. A good start is to read the gospels, since the stories are so familiar already. If you have trouble understanding portions of the Bible, don’t be afraid to talk to other Christians and have discussions about what you think. Then, pray to the Holy Spirit for wisdom and understanding. He will help you understand on a more substantial level, and how these scriptures can relate directly to your life.

John 20:19

“… Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’”

This is the first time the Apostles had seen the Risen Lord. The last time they saw Him, all had run away in fear. Peter had denied Him three times. John was present at the foot of the cross, but he too had run away at Jesus’ arrest. All of them were terrified, yet Jesus reassured them with words of love. Jesus reminded them that they could find comfort in Him. This applies to all Christians nowadays, too. No matter what we do, Jesus will bring us peace if we turn to Him. No matter how we are afraid in life, we can know we have someone to always rely on. Next time you are feeling sad, nervous, or without much faith, go and pray.

Philippians 3:10-11

“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that if possible, I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”

Even though we are celebrating this Easter Season, it is important to remember that suffering is part of our human condition. After all, Christ Himself suffered immensely on the cross. We can learn from His pain. As Christians, we can learn that suffering is not meaningless because we have the hope of our own resurrection and eternal life with God. No matter the pain that we go through here on earth, we can take comfort in knowing that none of that is important. We will one day go home to our creator. Do not get put down by any suffering you go through and cast that pain on the Lord. He will help you feel relief.
