The Bible seems to indicate that our resurrected bodies in heaven will be glorified, transformed, and imperishable, like the glorious body of the resurrected Jesus Christ.

The first indication of what these glorious bodies will be like is debatable.

Do the actions and traits portrayed by Jesus after His resurrection indicate what the glorious, eternal bodies in heaven will be like, or was He still in an intermediate state of existence? It is hard to say.

After Jesus was resurrected, He appeared to Mary Magdalene. The text indicates that she tried to touch Him when she saw Him.

He responded in John 20:17, "Do not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father."

If Jesus didn't have a body, Mary couldn't touch it. So, it stands to reason that our eternal bodies have some sort of touchability with each other. However, Jesus' ascension was necessary to complete the process of glorious physical completion.

After this, Jesus appeared to the disciples in the Upper Room. The room was locked, and the disciples were behind a locked door, scared to death. Jesus walked through the wall or door and appeared among them. The Gospel of John records this experience. John 20:19 says, "Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." 20 After He said this, He showed them His hands and His side."

This would seem to indicate that the results of the crucifixion marked Jesus' glorified body. Now, does this mean His glorified body will have these marks forever? Some believe that the only thing Jesus will keep from earth forever in heaven, are the marks on His body from His crucifixion, but this is, at best, conjecture.

A week later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples in that same Upper Room because Thomas had not been present before. The Gospel of John records this experience in John 20:27, "Then he (Jesus) said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side."

The text would seem to indicate Thomas took Jesus up on the offer and declared in John 20:28, "My Lord and My God."

The text does not tell us what changed between Mary Magdalene and Thomas, but whatever it was, it allowed Thomas to touch Him. This would seem to indicate again, though, that the glorified body is touchable, and once again, the assumption is that the scars are still a part of Jesus' glorified body.

Later, Jesus appeared to the disciples on the beach in the Gospel of John. John 21:12, Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them and did the same with the fish. 15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon…

This passage would seem to indicate that Jesus' glorified body was able to eat food. The book of Revelation indicates there will be food in heaven. Revelation 22:2 says this about the tree of life in the eternal, glorious heaven, "…the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations."

Once again, the text doesn't say there will be eating in heaven, but the analogy seems to indicate just as Eve and Adam ate of the tree in Eden and surrendered to the curse, so the glorious saints of heaven will eat of the tree of life for healing. It appears the eternal, glorious bodies of humans will eat food in heaven.

These are the things that can be known about Jesus' body while He was on earth after His resurrection. The Apostle Paul expands on this in the book of Philippians. He says in Philippians 3:21, Jesus will transform the body of our humiliation so that it may be conformed to the body of his glory by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.

This would seem to indicate that whatever Jesus' body is in heaven, everyone else's will be too. Each person will receive a transformed body. Within this transformed body, what will be true in heaven that is not true now? Jesus' body shines like the Sun, so will everyone else's body? The Apostle Paul tells us in Corinthians that the glorified body is imperishable and powerful, meaning it will never die again, and it will have a sustained and rechargeable power to it that will continue into perpetuity.

The Book of Revelation indicates what kind of body or conditions the glorious body will function in forever with Jesus in Revelation 21:3, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them…4 he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away."

The eternal, glorious body will no longer be subject to pain, sorrow, death, mourning, or crying because all of this will be removed from the environment. Glorious bodies do not need tear ducts, so it is suspected that the glorious body will not have tear ducts.

These new bodies will be free from sin, suffering, sickness, and aging, and will possess power and glory, shining with a heavenly brilliance. While the exact appearance is not detailed, the Bible suggests we will be recognizable, free from our earthly flaws, and possess a perfect sense of well-being and strength.

And maybe the most glorious thing about the glorious bodies awaiting God's saints in heaven is the glorious reality of them being fully restored to the image in which they were originally made when God Himself placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

The Apostle Paul tells us in the book of Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 15:49, "Just as we have borne the image of the one (Adam) of dust, we will also bear the image of the one (Jesus) of heaven."

The glorious body that awaits every believer in Jesus will be restored to the original intent of the image given to Adam at the beginning of creation. This new glorious heavenly body will reflect the glorious presence of Jesus' redemption through the image each person bears for all of eternity.

This is a body worth living for!

However, faith in Jesus is required to receive it one day.

As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:57, "Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory (of a new body) through our Lord Jesus Christ."

The dead through Jesus will be raised imperishable, meaning, "live perfectly forever!"

Now that's good news for all of eternity!
