Joseph Smith, Jr.

The man behind the Latter Day Saint movement, who told of visions in which an angel directed him to a book of golden plates that would later form the basis for Mormon tenets and organization of the Church. Who was this man?

Joseph Smith, Jr., was born as the 5th child of Joseph Smith, Sr., and Lucy Mack Smith in 1805, in Vermont. Members of the Smith family had varying views on organized religion, but shared beliefs regarding religious visions and prophecies. Joseph Smith, Jr., would later go on to publish the earlier works in 1830 that would become the Church of Christ, later known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
