7 Ways to Set a Standard in God’s Kingdom

In the Book of Esther, we learn the story of how Queen Vashti was removed from the palace because she set a poor example for the kingdom. Those who have a position of influence, such as Vashti did, set a standard for society by their actions, attitude and words. Looking at the culture around us today, it’s clear that many of the “role models” aren’t setting a good example.

Our God is a loving God. However, He is also a just God who demands His children to live up to a certain standard of conduct. God does not set this standard to burden us or make our life harder. Instead, God sets a standard for us because He wants us to live our best lives and because He loves us unconditionally.

Those who live up to God’s standard get to be a positive influence in God’s eyes. Our heavenly Father is looking for those who will be shining examples for others to follow. If you lower your standards and compromise your character, you will lose your position in God’s kingdom as a person of influence just as Queen Vashti did.

Stand on the Truth

Truth should be the foundation of every standard we have. If we want to be standard setters, we must proclaim the truth not only with what we say, but with what we do. We set standards through our attitudes, actions, and interactions. When you decide to serve the Lord, you must be bold about it. Do so by making it clear that you are a Christian and serve Jesus Christ, because the unbelievers in the world are bold about serving their false gods. We must be louder than them, and show others the real truth. Think about it this way, you may be the only Christian that some people ever get to speak with. So don’t be afraid to share the truth, the Word of the Lord.

Trust in God’s Timing

The story of Esther reminds us why we should always trust in God’s timing. Esther was living an ordinary life, and then overnight she found herself living in a palace. When God’s will and God’s timing intersect, we are pushed into a position where we find purposed and place in God. Standard setters are strategically positioned by the Lord to uphold His truth at a chosen moment. Patience is key here, because it won’t work when we rush God along and try to declare our purpose before its time has come. If Esther had not arrived at the palace at the time that the Lord had decided, she would have missed her opportunity with her destiny. God’s timing is always right!
