6 Scripture Questions Every Believer Should Answer

The Bible is a great source of spiritual power, encouragement and wisdom. Scripture says, “Open my eyes, so that I may see the wonderful truths in Your law” (Psalm 119:18). If you are looking to learn, correct, train or encourage others toward maturity in Christ, the Bible is the book you should turn to. As you begin reading Scripture more and more, certain questions will begin to show up. In fact, during the Christian spiritual journey, followers of Christ are forced to eventually face some basic faith-related questions. Some of these will challenge our belief systems, what we think about God and what we think about ourselves. These questions are critical and every believer needs to know how to answer them. These answers will reveal God’s will for your life and also help you to feel confident as you share your faith with others. Here are six Scripture questions every believer should ask.

Which is the great commandment in the law?

It is important that you understand your primary purpose. When it ceases to be filled, it is useless. When Jesus was asked, “Which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus didn’t hesitate to respond: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). The call to love isn’t merely a suggestion either. It is our purpose. Love is the oxygen of God’s kingdom and it is the unique characteristic that shows that we belong to Him. Your primary purpose in life is to love the Lord your God with every part of your being. In Christ, we have the power to transform our world with love, we just have to be willing to put our love into action.

Who is my neighbor?

In Mark, when asked, “which is the greatest commandment in the law,” Jesus answered with two commandments: to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. In Jesus’ teachings, our relationship with our fellow man is inseparable from our relationship with God, but in the fast-pace world we live in today, many of us would be hard-pressed to even know the names of those who live next door. It is not just difficult, but virtually impossible to love our neighbors as Christ commanded us when we don’t even know their names. The truth is, your neighbor is anyone and everyone to whom you can be Christ’s hand extended. These do include people who are outside of your comfort zone. See the need and don’t be blind to it.

If salt loses its flavor, how should the earth be seasoned?

Many professed Christians will go about the normal patterns of daily life, and no one has a clue about their faith. In our decaying and corrupt society, our Lord reminds us that we are the “salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13). All too often, however, the salt does lose its flavor. If salt loses its flavor, the earth can’t be seasoned. As more and more Christians retreat within the convenience of the church, the salt will lose its flavor. We are commissioned to go out and be the salt of the earth, not just to be the salt of the church. We are called to seek the lost and be the kind of salt that preserves, stings and makes them thirsty for Christ.
