Scientific studies have shown that prayer and meditation is an important factor not only in terms of staying healthy, but also living longer. While people have commonly called upon healing power within themselves during crisis through prayer and meditation, science is also showing that prayer and meditation can stimulate healing power within your body and ultimately bring healing. When you pray before sleep, taking a moment to sit in silence with God and quiet your mind, it brings you closer to God and can have a positive impact on your body and spirit.

It Can Help Us Overcome Worry and Anxiety

While God calls us every single day to not be afraid, to simply trust Him in everything can be difficult. The Christian life is a constant battle between fear and trust; anxiety and trust, and doubt and confidence. Worrying can be harmful not only to our emotional health, but also to our physical health. Psalm 27:1 says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” Like many psalms, King David wrote this from a season of trouble. Yet, it is a song of confidence and triumph because David was not in darkness or ultimate peril because the Lord was his light and salvation. God Himself brought light to David’s life. He did not despair in darkness and all that it represented. His life was filled with the Lord, and his life was filled with the light. The same can be applied to our lives. When you’re anxious, turning to prayer will help you recognize that God is the stronghold of our lives.

It Gives Us Power

God calls on all of us to make total surrender to God. If you’re in need of strength and are ready for a change in your life in a way that you’ve never known before, God demands that you allow the Lord to become the ruler of your life. We can only do this when we surrender to Him. This can only happen when we’re in constant communication and have a relationship with God. He has the power to equip you with strength as you face your biggest challenges. Philippians 2:13 says “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.” He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. His power can renew your strength. If you are in a state of powerlessness today and are ready for God to change the space you’re in, God can turn things around.
