5 Promises of God That He Wants You to Remember

Jodi Picoult, author of Change of Heart, says it best, “There’s always going to be bad stuff out there. But here’s the amazing thing – light trumps darkness, every time. You stick a candle into the dark, but you can’t stick the dark into the light.”

Life is full of difficult dark times. Moments when we feel like we’ve hit rock bottom. Moments when we believe the universe is against us. Moments when we don’t believe in ourselves. Faith is integral – especially during these times. Having the scriptural knowledge of prophesies is key to fully understanding and living out our God given potential. It’s important to study and recite the promises and scriptures because they will serve as a solid foundation for the times you fall into doubt or feel challenged.

Always know that despite it all, God serves as the light – our light. He’s made a promise to us and he wants to make sure you remember. Try to view hardships as lessons by turning your grief into grace. Identify the gratitude within the low times. There are five promises Christians should live by and follow daily.

Prosperity Not Harmful

Psalm 103 lists the many ways God wants to bless you. He forgives all of your sins and heals your diseases. He redeems your life from the lowest points of despair and provides you with love and compassion. He backs righteousness and justice for the oppressed. He is compassionate and gracious. He is slow to anger and always bound in love. And, that’s not it.

Things will happen. Dark times will unfold. Regardless it’s important to know that God has made the promise to not be harmful, He wants you to be prosperous. In Jeremiah 29:11 he preaches, “For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This reinforces His promise. God has big dreams for you and wants you to have a prosperous future. He is truly invested in your well-being and wholeness, but he can only guide you because you have free will.

Christ is Your Power

Philippians 4:13 is a verse to recite frequently and memorize. “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” God will never lead you astray and there will always be a deeper reasoning. He is your ally. It’s only when Christians give and believe in the power of Christ that He will have the opportunity to guide and deliver His glory.

God wants His people to celebrate His promises and that celebration should be continual. You cannot pick and choose when you are willing to honor God and acknowledge His power. It’s only when you accept this promise that He will have the chance to deliver on his oath. He has a shield, but you must get behind Him. “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” (Psalm 5-12)

God’s Love For You is Unconditional

Let’s be totally honest – we are not perfect. Every day we commit sins and make mistakes. Despite our inconsistencies and flaws, God still loves us. In fact, there is nothing you could do that He wouldn’t forgive. There are no other relationships, in your life, like that. No one else will give you that unconditional love. We all have a God shaped hole in our heart because he is the only one who has the power to fill it.

The love is claimed by your faith. Romans 8:38-39 emphasizes this and states, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” No matter what season you are walking through, no matter how much you believe you messed up, and no matter how unaware you are God has unconditional love for you.

God Will Provide Redemption and an Eternal Home

God is our unfailing protector. He has promised us redemption and an eternal home. Psalm 121 tells us, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth., He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

Christ’s assignment was a redemption plan. Our faith in Jesus Christ allows us to be part of the promise of an eternal home – a sanctuary.

You Were Built With Intention

God formed you with intention. In Psalm 139 God’s craftsmanship is highlighted. “For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

When we’re feeling down, it’s easy to fall into a sorrowful pit. It’s important to reflect and remember, during these times, that God created you with intention and has a special plan for your life. During your time on earth, God knows what you can achieve and depends on that – everyone relies on that. Do not lose sight of that promise He made to you. God has a purpose for you. When you are struggling with your self-worth or feeling alone, find reassurance in Psalm 139 by knowing that God keeps His promises. Everyone is built with intention and authenticity.
