Secure Your Relationship with God

“Our relationship with God is the source of all things good in our lives. He will help you, when no one else can be found. He will guide you, when you’re lost and can’t find your way. He will comfort you, when others seem to be callous and cold. And He will never leave you, because He promised to be with you forever and at all times.”

Having a close relationship with God will help you identify the Godly qualities a husband-to-be should possess. God’s love will also give you the grace to forgive your husband’s unintentional mistakes. Spend each day with time in prayer, both talking to the Lord, and opening your heart to receive His love and guidance.

Spend Time Discovering What Makes You Special

“A wife is a custom-made, life-long companion to a man. She is the help, stabilization, and representation of home to a husband, as illustrated in Proverbs 31:10–31. To be a wife requires ingenuity, creativity, soulful nurturing, and sensual prowess. This job is where you can use your best talents and essential features as a woman.”

No two women are exactly the same, and so no two wives can be either. Spend time learning the things you do well, and celebrate what makes you a unique woman. That way, when a man is interested in you, you’ll be able to accept his love and attention with security in the beauty of who you are.

Learn the Art of Compromise

“In marriage, a husband and wife share the decisions, the overall direction, and the big goals of their family life together. The husband doesn’t get his way all the time, and neither does the wife. In fact, I would say that neither one gets his or her way at all. Everything in a marriage is a compromise, a combination of what both people want.”

Start to add compromise to your life by considering the needs and desires of your closest friends and family. Try offering to do things your friends want to do, just because you enjoy their company. By learning to consider others, you’ll gain the mindset of “us”, which every wife has to have in her marriage.

Talk with Happily Married Women

“Women are born; wives are formed. If God and successful wives don’t teach you how to do the job of being a wife, there’s no way you’ll be prepared to do the wife job in excellence.”

Spend some time with happily married women who are willing to share their experiences (good or bad) with you. If you don’t know any in your family or church, pray that God directs you to some women who can be a support for you. Ask questions about life as a married woman, and take note of the decisions they make concerning dealing with their spouse, adjusting to in-laws, raising children in a blended family and sharing a life with someone of the opposite sex.
