Famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo was raised Catholic in an impoverished home by his parents in Madeira, Portugal. Cristiano plays as a forward for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Portugal national team, and is considered one of the best players in the world. He has been religious all his life, especially when he’s on the field. He plans to instill his Catholic roots and religious values in his child as well. “He will be taught values and religious values,” Ronaldo said in an interview. Ronaldo collects crucifix necklaces, which he says brings him closer to God during games. He is aware of his God given talent and gives glory to God for his wins.

Brazilian soccer player Neymar da Silva Santos Junior once said “Live only makes sense when our highest ideal is to serve Christ.” Neymar is a proud Christian and follows the Pentecostal branch of the church. He has been seen wearing headbands with the words “100% Jesus” from time to time on the field, to which many of his fans began copying. When asked what European soccer club he would love to play for, Neymar responded “I do not have any preference – the decision belongs to God.” Furthermore, when the Scottish soccer club the Glasgow Rangers wouldn’t allow Catholics to play for a certain time, he decided to speak out against the discrimination saying “I am no angel but I respect all religions…there is no place for racism in football.” Neymar also reportedly tithes 10 percent of his income to his church.
