Christian Baseball Athletes to Watch in the MLB Playoffs

Star athletes are seen as role models, both good and bad. Many athletes live a lifestyle that isn't one we should want to follow. They party often, focus only on success, and don’t have their priorities in order.

A man who gives his whole heart to God will quickly learn that the Holy Spirit will lift them up and take them to some amazing, successful places. A star athlete who knows this as truth wants everyone around him to know he is walking with the Lord. The game doesn’t mean everything to them. They acknowledge that God comes first in their lives, baseball second.

These Christian baseball players are spreading their faith with their fans, and using their platform to reach people who have never heard of the Lord before. Here we put the spotlight on Christian professional baseball players playing in the MLB playoffs, who champion the cause of God.

Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers)

Dodgers left-handed pitcher and 2011 Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw is famous for his wicked curve ball, but he's also a huge fan of God. Clayton is a follower of Jesus Christ and has shared this testimony with his wife Ellen on several occasions. He attended church faithfully with his mom as a child, but he didn’t have a personal relationship with Jesus. In high school, he developed a deeper understanding. He said: “Christianity in itself means that you believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins. It wasn’t until high school that I was mature enough to understand what that meant and how I should live my life based on that.” When he entered the 2006 Major League draft, he continued his faith and fully surrendered to Christ on signing day. “When I relinquished all control in my life was the day I got drafted. That was life-changing,” he told I Am Second. “Even talking about it now chokes me up because it’s amazing the providence God had in my life. God was there the whole time. I just didn’t bother to look.”

Aaron Judge (Yankees)

Aaron Judge was unanimously selected as the American League Rookie of the Year for 2017, but he doesn’t let this get to his head. The right fielder, who hit more home runs in his rookie season than any player in history, relies on faith and family to help him remain humble. Judge shares his faith with his fans frequently. One place you can find him chatting about his faith is on Twitter. The intro blurb reads, "Christian. Faith, Family, then Baseball. If what you did yesterday still seems big today, then you haven't done anything today!", the banner image at the top of the page quotes 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight) and one frequently finds additional Bible verses cited in his tweets.

Chris Davis (Orioles)

During his fantastic 2013 season, Chris Davis first told the world how his faith in Christ helped him navigate the adversity of an up-and-down career. He speaks candidly about how his faith has changed, and there have been times where it was stagnant. “When you separate yourself from God and don’t have Him at the center of your life, you’re going to be more susceptible to temptation,” Davis said during this rough patch. Today, Davis continues to use his platform to share God frequently. For example, he shared his testimony with children at a Christian Youth Athletics event in Baltimore. He also is close with other Christian baseball players that help keep him grounded.
