You might not know for sure which love language you are, but your subconscious might. The romantic pop songs you love to listen to might have hidden lyrics that reveal what you truly need in a relationship. Do the song lyrics talk of a couple that is completely focused on each other or of a partner showering the other with gifts for example?

Words of Affirmation

For those who prefer the words of affirmation language, hearing "I love you" and other compliments are what they value the most. They want to have positive communication. Furthermore, negative or insulting comments cut deep — and won't be easily forgiven.

Jason Aldean’s song “You Make it Easy” is a beautiful love song. Lyrics say "You’re my sunshine on my darkest days, my better half, my saving grace.” It continues with “I see forever when I see your face, and I swear God made you for me.” Who wouldn’t want to be showered with compliments by their significant other? These would have someone with this love language swooning.

On the opposite hand, you might also connect with Shawn Mendes’ song “Stitches.” The opening lyrics say “I thought I’ve been hurt before…your words cut deeper than a knife.” You think the worst pain you can feel is from having someone you love put you down negatively. It rips your heart open.

Acts of Service

For those with this love language, they believe that actions speak louder than words. They feel most loved and appreciated when their partner does something they know they would like – such as making dinner, helping run errands or cleaning the house. People that thrive on this language have little tolerance for broken promises.

Do you love the song “Don’t Let Me Down” by the Chainsmokers? If so, it’s probably because your love language is acts of service. Their lyrics say: “I need you right now…so don’t let me down…I hope that you will be here when I need you the most.” Those that thrive on acts of service appreciate someone who will help them out.

On the opposite side, you might have hated the song “Ain’t Your Mama” by Jennifer Lopez. The lyrics say "I ain't gon' be cooking all day...I ain't gon' do your laundry," which is something you would choose to do for your loved one, because it’s how you show love. You would expect your lover to return the favors as a way to show appreciation.

Receiving Gifts

For some people, what makes them feel the most loved is to receive a tangible gift. This doesn’t automatically mean that the person is materialistic, but a meaningful present makes them feel appreciated. Getting a gift says “they were thinking about me, look what they got for me.”

Though having this type of love language definitely doesn’t make the person materialistic, the song “Material Girl” by Madonna is a perfect fit. She starts by saying "Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me, I think they're ok" but further explains that "only boys who save their pennies, make my rainy day." The one with the cash is Mr. Right, because he can shower her with gifts galore.

On the other hand, the Kung’s remix of the old classic “This Girl” from Cookin’ on 3 Burners probably didn’t resonate with you at all when it hit the airwaves in 2016. Lyrics say “You’ll never buy my love,” and “These presents don't really come for free, your paychecks don't mean that much to me.” Someone with this love language would be bummed their partner wouldn’t get them something special, even if it was small.

Quality Time

This language is all about giving the other person your undivided attention. They need someone that is present in the moment, and is there for them without hesitation. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful to these individuals.

The Justin Timberlake song “My Love” is about giving the person you care about your full attention. The chorus lyrics go “I can see us holdin' hands, walkin' on the beach, our toes in the sand. I can see us on the country side, sittin' in the grass layin' side by side.” Spending true, quality time with your lover is what it’s all about.

Jack Johnson’s song “Banana Pancakes” also echoes this love language, and speaks about a couple that wants to waste their morning only being with each other. Lyrics say “We could close the curtains, pretend like there's no world outside" and "But the telephone's singing ringing, it's too early don't pick it up. We don't need to, we got everything we need right here."

Physical Touch

To this person, nothing speaks more deeply than appropriate touch. That doesn't mean only in the bedroom — everyday physical connections, like hand-holding, kissing, or any type of re-affirming physical contact is greatly appreciated. They don’t necessarily need over-the-top PDA, but physical touch makes them feel safe and loved.

You might love the hit song “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. Lyrics go: “She took my arm…we took the floor and she said…shut up and dance with me.” The couple in this song thrived by holding on to each other and enjoying the night dancing away. Those with the physical touch love language would do the same.

The Ed Sheeran song "Perfect" shares the importance of physical touch as well. Lyrics say "But darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own" and "darling, just hold my hand." The small, physical gestures mean a lot for those that thrive on this language.
