A spiritual mentor can do a lot in the life of a Christian. While the word “mentor” isn’t used directly in Scripture, there are countless examples of spiritual mentors in the Bible. These mentors, who were considered advisors, were evident in the life of Christ with His disciples. Those who were influenced were able to also become mentors to others whom they taught and bring new meaning to Christian life. These spiritual advisors have rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest political figures, and celebrities in the world of entertainment. Their example has played a major role in transforming the lives of those who they’ve influenced. Here are five spiritual advisors to the stars.

Rob Bell

Widely popular and controversial former megachurch pastor, Rob Bell is Oprah Winfrey’s spiritual advisor. The two have been in partnership over the last couple of years, with Winfrey also shaping Bell’s spirituality and understanding of faith. Bell sparked controversy when he appeared on an episode of Winfrey’s “Super Soul Sunday” with his wife, Kristen to talk about religion in spirituality. He said that if a church doesn’t support same-sex marriage, it will “continue to be even more irrelevant” and that the church’s acceptance of gay marriage is inevitable. He also sparked controversy with his 2011 book “Love Wins” which questioned traditional theological constructs surrounding heaven, hell and the Christian gospel.

Joshua DuBois, Joel Hunter, Jim Wallis and Joseph Lowery

These four men are among President Obama’s circle of spiritual advisors. Florida megachurch pastor Joel Hunter, iconic evangelical and political advocate, Jim Wallis, United Methodist Church leader and civil rights advocate Joseph Lowery and Joshua DuBois who led the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood partnerships all say President Obama’s faith ‘has deepened’ in his second term. "The president's Christian faith is not connected to or dependent upon anyone else's beliefs about him, any particular policy issue, any moment in the news cycle or anything else,” said Dubois. “The president's faith existed long before the While House and will continue after he closes the door to the White House for the last time."
