Though Tebow has been mocked by sports media over his abstinence pledge, he continues to hold to his Christian values, and makes his choices based on what the Bible teaches about sex. He believes that the Bible is a roadmap to navigating healthy relationships, and believes in the value of waiting until He finds God’s match for him. When Tebow was ridiculed over his breakup with Miss Universe girlfriend, Olivia Culpo over his abstinence until marriage stance, Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker said. “Some unoriginal and condescending journalists just can’t miss an opportunity to ridicule someone who is devoutly religious and lives by a moral code. What did Tebow ever do to them?” We wonder the same thing.

Ciara and Russell Wilson

Both the Seahawks quarterback and singer have been open with the media about abstaining from sex in their relationship and waiting until marriage. In an interview with former NFL player, Pastor Miles McPherson , Wilson expressed that he and Ciara were going to wait until marriage to have sex. He shared how God spoke to him in Ciara’s dressing room and said ‘I need you to lead her.’ He asked Ciara what it would look like if they took all the extra stuff off the table and did it Jesus’ way, referring to abstinence. Ciara agreed, and they continued down a road that allowed them to create a foundation and friendship with each other. Given their very public relationship and their recent engagement announcement, more people are having conversations around the value of waiting.

Actress Meagan Good and former Senior Vice President of Columbia TriStar Pictures DeVon Franklin, practiced abstinence prior to their marriage in 2012, and even wrote a book on how that experience helped mold their relationship. In the book, they share how important it is to find intimacy through other means, such as communication and how sex doesn’t define a relationship. Good said, ““Anyone who really wants to be with you and really wants to get to know you, and really wants a future with you is going to be willing to take the steps to want to get to know you in a way that will set you up for that future.
