6 Christian Celebrities Who Are Changing Show Business

Hollywood has become synonymous with extreme, non-Christian values and lifestyles. The entertainment industry is often compared to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, holding the same stigma of sin and vice. However, contrary to popular belief, Hollywood is not simply a wasteland. It is actually filled with devout, born-again Christians whose lives have been transformed by Jesus Christ. Some of our favorite athletes, actors, singers and comedians are devout Christians. Many of these celebrities found God in remarkable ways and are unafraid to share the Gospel whenever and wherever they can. Some of these Christian celebrities make it a point to make sure their professional lives are in line with their faith. They love Jesus and they want others to recognize how incredible of a Savior He is. Others allow their faith to drive their decision-making and transform their hearts. Here are six Christian celebrities who are changing show business.

Justin Bieber

Singer Justin Bieber openly talks about his faith and his relationship with Jesus Christ, particularly online. He uses social media as a platform to share his own faith message and encourage others to follow Jesus. When the Christian devotional Jesus Calling was released, he encouraged his fans to start reading the book. He took to Instagram and shared a quote from the book that included two Bible verses from Psalms and 1 Corinthians, in which Christians are advised to trust in the Lord. He's also not afraid to talk about his love for God on stage during his concerts. Bieber regularly attends church. When he was getting in trouble with the law, he was reportedly seen attending church more and more. When he’s been at some of his lowest points like his latest bought with depression, God has grounded him.

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is super recognizable on and off screen. While many recognize him for his athletic and acting background, what many people don’t know is that he is a born-again Christian who turned his life around for Jesus. The Semi-retired professional wrestler, actor and producer exudes confidence on and off the camera, but on the inside has dealt with an ongoing battle with depression. In an interview with Oprah, he emphasized how his faith was instrumental in combating his depression, saying “You have to hold onto that fundamental quality of faith. Have faith. And on the other side of your pain is something good.” Dwayne counts his blessings every day because he wouldn’t be where he is today without Jesus.

Kathie Lee Gifford

While Gifford is one of the most recognizable faces in show business, what many people don’t know is that she was born Jewish, and when she was 12 years old became a “born again” Christian. Gifford then attended Oral Roberts University and says that Billy Graham is to thank for it. “My entire family came to faith through eternity through Billy Graham.” Her faith in God helped her get through her first year without her husband, NFL legend and broadcaster Frank Gifford who died of natural causes in 2015. The year she lost her husband, she said “I’ve gotten through the past year the way I’ve gotten through every day of my life; faithfully trusting God to do what God does, which is to show up, redeem and restore.” Her faith continues to be a central part of her life and having a deep relationship with Jesus Christ is important. She has encouraged fans to consider the power of God and prayer.

Ryan Gosling

It may come as a surprise that the larger than life actor is a believer of Christ, but he is! Gosling grew up with parents who had strong Mormon beliefs and he says that religion has influenced every aspect of his life. “My mother admits it: She says, you were raised by a religious zealot. She’s different now, but at the time, it was part of everything – What they ate, how they taught,” Gosling told The Guardian in an interview. His family also moved around a lot because of their Mormon faith. Gosling still considers himself a Christian but now says he is a “non-denominational” Christian. It’s good to know that his faith keeps him grounded and guides his decision-making.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg made headlines when he said he was a born-again Christian. This announcement was following the release of his first gospel album “Bible of Love” which features a number of popular gospel artists including Fred Hammond, the Clark Sisters, Pastor John P. Kee and Marvin Sapp. He shared the born-again news on an interview with Beats 1 Radio. He not only shared that he was working on the album, but he felt called to do it right now. He shared, “It’s always been on my heart. I just never got around to it because I’ve always been doing gangsta business and doing this and doing that. But I just feel like it’s been on my heart too long.” While some have been critical of his religious switch, he is not backing down from his born-again claim. This is not the first time Snoop has performed Christian music. In 2016, he posted a video on his Instagram account that featured him singing along to the gospel song “I’d rather have Jesus.”

Steve Harvey

Harvey is one of the hardest working men in show business. He hosts the Steve Harvey Morning Show, the Steve talk show, Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud, Little Big Shots, Steve Harvey’s Funderdome, Showtime at the Apollo and the Miss Universe Pageant, not to mention being a comedian, actor and author. What some don’t know is that he had to take some major jumps in life before he could be in the place he’s in today. “God gave me a vision for my life, and that was to be on television,” Harvey said on the Steve talk show. “In order for me to get there, my journey included flunking out of college, being laid off from my job, being homeless for three years, going through two divorces, and owing the IRS tons of money because of horrible advice. In dealing with each one of these setbacks, I chose to jump.” He is not afraid to talk to his audience about his faith and the importance of trusting in God.
