"The Inner Voice of Love" contains excerpts from Nouwen's journal during the time when the great Catholic priest doubted not only himself, but God. In a tribute to Nouwen, who died in 1996, Carolyn Whitney-Brown wrote "Henri believed that we are each totally beloved by God--and yet he couldn't quite trust totally that he was beloved, truly at home." It is this tension that "The Inner Voice of Love" explores.
